Kumi Naidoo is a human rights activist and the International Executive Director of Greenpeace. He is the first African to head the organisation. Born in South Africa, Naidoo became involved in the nation’s anti-apartheid struggle at the age of 15 and, as a result of his activities, was expelled from high school. In 2003 Kumi was appointed by the former Secretary General of the United Nations to the Eminent Persons Panel on UN Civil Society Relations.
