Germany deports Afghan without criminal record for first time since Taliban takeover

BERLIN, July 28 (Reuters) - Germany has deported an Afghan national without a criminal record for the first time since the Taliban returned to power, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on Tuesday.

• According to Dobrindt, the man had become liable for deportation after exhausting his asylum claim.

• He had attempted to settle in another European country but was found to be living there illegally. After being transferred back to Germany, he was deported to Afghanistan.

• The man was among 31 Afghan men deported by plane on Tuesday. The other 30 had criminal convictions.

• Deportations to Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover in 2021 remain controversial, given concerns over human rights and the treatment of returnees.

• Since the resumption of deportations to Afghanistan in 2024, Germany has returned over 200 people. According to human rights group Amnesty International, at least one was killed following deportation.

BERLINO, 28 luglio (Reuters) - La Germania ha espulso un cittadino afghano senza precedenti penali per la prima volta da quando i talebani sono tornati al potere, ha dichiarato martedì il ministro dell’Interno Alexander Dobrindt.

• Secondo Dobrindt, l’uomo era diventato soggetto a espulsione dopo aver esaurito la procedura di richiesta di asilo.

• Aveva tentato di stabilirsi in un altro paese europeo, ma è stato scoperto che vi risiedeva illegalmente. Dopo essere stato rimpatriato in Germania, è stato espulso in Afghanistan.

• L’uomo faceva parte di un gruppo di 31 cittadini afghani espulsi in aereo martedì. Gli altri 30 avevano precedenti penali.

• Le espulsioni verso l’Afghanistan a seguito della presa di potere dei talebani nel 2021 rimangono controverse, date le preoccupazioni relative ai diritti umani e al trattamento riservato ai rimpatriati.

• Dalla ripresa delle espulsioni verso l’Afghanistan nel 2024, la Germania ha rimpatriato oltre 200 persone. Secondo l’organizzazione per i diritti umani Amnesty International, almeno una di queste è stata uccisa in seguito all’espulsione.
