Hormuz crossings rise slightly from weekend, remain in single digits, data shows

SINGAPORE, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Ship crossings via the Strait of Hormuz were still in single digits on Monday, despite rising slightly from the weekend, according to preliminary shipping data on Tuesday, amid a stalemate in U.S. and Iranian peace talks.

Six commodity ships transited the strait on Monday, of which three were exiting the Gulf and three were entering, Kpler shiptracking data showed, compared with the 10-day average of 11 ships. Three ships transited on Saturday while two moved through the waterway on Sunday.

There were no very large crude carriers or tankers carrying liquefied natural gas passing through.

Some vessels could be passing through the strait with their transponders switched off and they are not considered in the tally.

The very large gas carrier (VLGC) Xavia entered the strait via the Iranian route under ballast, meaning empty of a cargo, according to the data. VLGCs are typically used to ship liquefied petroleum gases such as propane and butane.

A medium-range fuel tanker and an intermediate-range tanker also entered the Gulf, the data showed, while a medium-sized LPG carrier, a Panamax bulk carrier and a Panamax-sized fuel tanker exited the Gulf.

SINGAPORE, 18 agosto (Reuters) - Secondo i dati preliminari sul traffico marittimo diffusi martedì, lunedì il numero di navi che hanno attraversato lo Stretto di Hormuz era ancora a una cifra, nonostante un leggero aumento rispetto al fine settimana, in un contesto di stallo nei negoziati di pace tra Stati Uniti e Iran.

Lunedì sei navi da trasporto merci hanno attraversato lo stretto, di cui tre in uscita dal Golfo e tre in entrata, secondo i dati di monitoraggio navale di Kpler, rispetto a una media di 11 navi negli ultimi 10 giorni. Sabato hanno attraversato lo stretto tre navi, mentre domenica ne hanno attraversato due.

Non sono state avvistate né superpetroliere né navi cisterna che trasportassero gas naturale liquefatto.

Alcune imbarcazioni potrebbero aver attraversato lo stretto con i transponder spenti e non sono state quindi conteggiate.

Secondo i dati, la nave per il trasporto di gas di grandi dimensioni (VLGC) Xavia è entrata nello stretto attraverso la rotta iraniana a zavorra, ovvero senza carico. Le VLGC sono tipicamente utilizzate per il trasporto di gas di petrolio liquefatti come il propano e il butano.

I dati hanno inoltre mostrato che una petroliera a medio raggio e una petroliera a raggio intermedio sono entrate nel Golfo, mentre una nave metaniera di medie dimensioni, una nave portarinfuse Panamax e una petroliera di dimensioni Panamax sono uscite dal Golfo.
