Tanker off Yemen boarded by armed people, diverted towards Somalia, UKMTO says

DUBAI, Aug 20 (Reuters) - A tanker was boarded by six armed people who took control of the vessel and diverted it towards Somalia, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Thursday.

UKMTO earlier said it had received a report of an incident 136 nautical miles east of Yemen’s Mukalla, where the tanker, travelling west in the Gulf of Aden, reported being approached by an unauthorised vessel.

UKMTO provided no further details and did not say whether the tanker or its crew were safe.

DUBAI, 20 agosto (Reuters) - Una petroliera è stata abbordata da sei persone armate che ne hanno preso il controllo e l’hanno dirottata verso la Somalia, ha riferito giovedì l’United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

L’UKMTO aveva precedentemente dichiarato di aver ricevuto una segnalazione relativa a un incidente avvenuto a 136 miglia nautiche a est di Mukalla, nello Yemen, dove la petroliera, che navigava in direzione ovest nel Golfo di Aden, aveva segnalato di essere stata avvicinata da un’imbarcazione non autorizzata.

L’UKMTO non ha fornito ulteriori dettagli né ha specificato se la petroliera o il suo equipaggio fossero al sicuro.
