Sea drones injure eight in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi, officials say

Sept 10 (Reuters) - Sea drones injured eight people in Russia’s popular Black Sea resort of Sochi late on Wednesday, authorities of the surrounding Krasnodar region said on the Telegram messaging app.

Beach infrastructure at Sochi was partially damaged, the post said. Russian President Vladimir Putin has an official residence there.

Weapons were fired and an explosion seen on a social media post from a Sochi embankment, with people heard screaming. The video was verified by Reuters.

While Ukraine is hitting Russia nearly daily with drones from the air, including deep into the country to knock out its energy, export and logistics infrastructure, attacks using sea drones are less frequent.

Sochi was hosting 2014 Winter Olympic Games shortly after which Russia annexed the Crimea peninsula, also on the Black Sea, from Ukraine. Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine started in 2022.

10 settembre (Reuters) - Mercoledì in tarda serata alcuni droni marini hanno ferito otto persone nella rinomata località turistica russa di Sochi, sul Mar Nero, secondo quanto riferito dalle autorità della vicina regione di Krasnodar tramite l’app di messaggistica Telegram.

Le infrastrutture della spiaggia di Sochi sono state parzialmente danneggiate, secondo quanto riportato nel post. Il presidente russo Vladimir Putin possiede una residenza ufficiale in quella località.

In un post sui social media girato da un lungomare di Sochi si vedono spari e un’esplosione, mentre si sentono le urla delle persone. Il video è stato verificato da Reuters.

Mentre l’Ucraina colpisce la Russia quasi quotidianamente con droni aerei, anche in profondità nel paese per mettere fuori uso le infrastrutture energetiche, di esportazione e logistiche, gli attacchi con droni marini sono meno frequenti.

Sochi ha ospitato i Giochi Olimpici Invernali del 2014; poco dopo la Russia ha annesso all’Ucraina la penisola di Crimea, anch’essa affacciata sul mar Nero. L’invasione su vasta scala dell’Ucraina da parte della Russia è iniziata nel 2022.
