LONDON, April 20 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Monday foreign office officials did not inform him, or any ministers, that they had granted security clearance to former U.S. ambassador Peter Mandelson against the vetting agency’s recommendation in January 2025.

Starmer apologised again to victims of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and said Mandelson should never have been appointed as the UK’s ambassador to the U.S., adding that his judgment was wrong.

LONDRA, 20 aprile (Reuters) - Il primo ministro degli esteri Keir Starmer ha detto lunedì che i funzionari del ministero degli esteri non hanno informato né lui né alcun ministro di aver concesso l’autorizzazione di sicurezza all’ex ambasciatore americano Peter Mandelson contro la raccomandazione dell’agenzia di controllo nel gennaio 2025.

Starmer si è scusato ancora una volta con le vittime del defunto molestatore Jeffrey Epstein e ha detto che Mandelson non avrebbe mai dovuto essere nominato ambasciatore del Regno Unito negli Stati Uniti, aggiungendo che il suo giudizio era sbagliato.
