Mexican navy officer suspected for fuel trafficking Fernando Farias arrested in Argentina

MEXICO CITY, April 23 (Reuters) - Mexican authorities said on Thursday that Fernando Farias, a navy officer and alleged fuel trafficker, has been arrested in Argentina and faces extradition.

Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch said Farias, the suspected leader of a smuggling organization, was detained in Buenos Aires following a coordinated operation between the Mexican Navy, the Attorney General’s Office, and Argentine authorities.

Farias was wanted on an Interpol red notice for organized crime charges related to hydrocarbon trafficking. He was found in possession of a false Guatemalan passport at the time of his arrest, according to authorities.

Città del Messico, 23 aprile (Reuters) - Le autorità messicane hanno dichiarato giovedì che Fernando Farias, ufficiale della Marina e presunto trafficante di carburante, è stato arrestato in Argentina e rischia l’estradizione.

Il ministro della Sicurezza Omar Garcia Harfuch ha detto che Farias, sospettato di essere a capo di un’organizzazione di contrabbandieri, è stato arrestato a Buenos Aires in seguito a un’operazione coordinata tra la Marina messicana, l’Ufficio del Procuratore Generale e le autorità argentine.

Farias era ricercato in base a un avviso rosso dell’Interpol per accuse di criminalità organizzata legate al traffico di idrocarburi. Secondo le autorità, al momento dell’arresto era in possesso di un passaporto guatemalteco falso.
