LONDON, June 19 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Friday he would stand in any leadership contest, after potential rival Andy Burnham won a vote for a parliamentary seat to return to Westminster, paving the way for a challenge.

Starmer told reporters that he did not think a leadership challenge would be good for the country but he added: “If there is a contest … then yes I will run, I will stand.”

“I’ve said repeatedly I’m not going to walk away from that.”

LONDRA, 19 giugno (Reuters) - Il primo ministro britannico Keir Starmer ha dichiarato venerdì che si candiderà in qualsiasi corsa alla leadership, dopo che il potenziale rivale Andy Burnham ha vinto le elezioni per un seggio parlamentare che gli consentirà di tornare a Westminster, aprendo la strada a una sfida.

Starmer ha dichiarato ai giornalisti di non ritenere che una sfida alla leadership sarebbe positiva per il paese, ma ha aggiunto: «Se ci sarà una competizione… allora sì, mi candiderò, mi presenterò».

«Ho ripetuto più volte che non ho intenzione di tirarmi indietro».
