Russia calls Germany’s Leipzig drone attack claims false and an unprecedented escalation

MOSCOW, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Russia’s embassy in Germany said on Tuesday that German allegations that Russia was responsible for an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport last month were an absurd and baseless provocation which stood to benefit Ukraine, the militaristic wing of the Europe’s elite, and arms makers.

The German government said on Tuesday it had concluded that Russia was to blame for the incident and ordered a series of measures in response, including the closure of a consulate and a Russian cultural centre in Berlin.

Russia’s embassy in Germany said in a statement that the measures amounted to an unprecedented escalation.

“The Russian ambassador categorically rejected the accusations levelled by Berlin as unsubstantiated, absurd and contrary to common sense,” the embassy said.

“He pointed out that the measures announced by the German side represent an unprecedented escalation in Russian-German relations and will not remain without consequences, for which the German Government will bear full responsibility.”

MOSCA, 1 settembre (Reuters) - L’ambasciata russa in Germania ha affermato martedì che le accuse tedesche secondo cui la Russia sarebbe responsabile di un tentativo di attacco con un drone all’aeroporto di Lipsia/Halle il mese scorso costituiscono una provocazione assurda e infondata, destinata ad avvantaggiare l’Ucraina, l’ala militarista dell’élite europea e i produttori di armi.

Martedì il governo tedesco ha dichiarato di aver concluso che la Russia fosse responsabile dell’incidente e ha ordinato una serie di misure in risposta, tra cui la chiusura di un consolato e di un centro culturale russo a Berlino.

L’ambasciata russa in Germania ha affermato in una dichiarazione che tali misure costituiscono un’escalation senza precedenti.

«L’ambasciatore russo ha respinto categoricamente le accuse mosse da Berlino, definendole infondate, assurde e contrarie al buon senso», ha dichiarato l’ambasciata.

«Ha sottolineato che le misure annunciate dalla parte tedesca rappresentano un’escalation senza precedenti nelle relazioni russo-tedesche e non rimarranno senza conseguenze, di cui il governo tedesco si assumerà la piena responsabilità».
