WARSAW, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to a December G20 meeting in ‌Miami, Florida may encourage Moscow to continue its aggression towards Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Thursday.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that he hoped Putin would accept the invitation and that it would give him the chance to engage with President Donald Trump and other world leaders.

“If inviting Putin to the G20 could bring us closer to a just peace, I would be absolutely in favour of it,” Tusk told a news conference.

“However - and this is both my concern and what my experience tells me - at this stage, Russia might well view it as an encouragement to continue its aggressive policies. That is what I fear.”

The Kremlin said on Wednesday that Russia would consider the invitation.

VARSAVIA, 24 settembre (Reuters) - Invitare il presidente russo Vladimir Putin al vertice del G20 che si terrà a dicembre a Miami, in Florida, potrebbe incoraggiare Mosca a proseguire la sua aggressione nei confronti dell’Ucraina, ha affermato giovedì il primo ministro polacco Donald Tusk.

Il segretario di Stato americano Marco Rubio ha dichiarato mercoledì di sperare che Putin accetti l’invito e che ciò gli dia l’opportunità di dialogare con il presidente Donald Trump e altri leader mondiali.

“Se invitare Putin al G20 potesse avvicinarci a una pace giusta, sarei assolutamente favorevole”, ha dichiarato Tusk in una conferenza stampa.

“Tuttavia – e questa è sia la mia preoccupazione sia ciò che mi suggerisce la mia esperienza – in questa fase, la Russia potrebbe benissimo interpretarlo come un incoraggiamento a proseguire le sue politiche aggressive. È questo che temo.”

Mercoledì il Cremlino ha dichiarato che la Russia avrebbe preso in considerazione l’invito.
