PARIS, April 2 (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday it would be unrealistic to launch a military operation to force open the Strait of Hormuz, after U.S. President Donald Trump challenged U.S. allies to work towards reopening it.

“Some people defend the idea of freeing the Strait of Hormuz by force via a military operation, a position sometimes expressed by the United States, although it has varied,” Macron told reporters during a trip to South Korea.

“This was never the option we have supported because it is unrealistic,” he added. “It would take forever, and would expose all those who go through the strait to risks from the guardians of the revolution but also ballistic missiles,” he said.

PARIS, 2 aprile (Reuters) - Il presidente francese Emmanuel Macron ha detto giovedì che sarebbe irrealistico lanciare un’operazione militare per forzare l’apertura dello Stretto di Hormuz, dopo che il presidente americano Donald Trump ha sfidato gli alleati statunitensi a lavorare per la sua riapertura.

“Alcuni difendono l’idea di liberare lo Stretto di Hormuz con la forza attraverso un’operazione militare, una posizione talvolta espressa dagli Stati Uniti, anche se è variata”, ha detto Macron ai reporter durante un viaggio in Corea del Sud.

“Questa non è mai stata l’opzione che abbiamo sostenuto perché è irrealistica”, ha aggiunto. “Ci vorrebbe una vita, ed esporrebbe tutti coloro che attraversano lo stretto a rischi da parte dei guardiani della rivoluzione ma anche di missili balistici”, ha detto.
