EU sanctions Israeli settlers, expands sanctions to Hamas’ Politburo members

BRUSSELS, May 28 (Reuters) - The EU Council on Thursday imposed sanctions on four entities and three individuals for abuses against Palestinians in West Bank, it said in a statement.

The list includes what the EU Council called extremist Israeli settlers and organisations that support them.

In a separate statement, the Council said it would also broaden the scope of the EU’s sanctions on Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad to also cover members of Hamas’ Political Bureau (Politburo) who promote, defend, or justify acts of violence.

BRUXELLES, 28 maggio (Reuters) - Il Consiglio dell’Unione europea ha imposto giovedì sanzioni a quattro entità e tre individui per abusi contro i palestinesi in Cisgiordania, si legge in un comunicato.

La lista include quelli che il Consiglio dell’UE ha definito coloni israeliani estremisti e organizzazioni che li sostengono.

In una dichiarazione separata, il Consiglio ha detto che avrebbe anche ampliato la portata delle sanzioni dell’Unione europea su Hamas e la Jihad islamica palestinese per coprire anche i membri dell’Ufficio politico (Politburo) di Hamas che promuovono, difendono o giustificano atti di violenza.
