South Korean military: ‘Highly likely’ North Korean mine injured soldiers in DMZ

SEOUL, Sept 28 (Reuters) - South Korea’s military said on Monday that it was “highly likely” that the blasts that seriously injured two South Korean soldiers in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) at the border on September 21 were caused by a North Korean mine.

A South Korean military team was conducting a reconnaissance operation inside the western sector of the 4-km-wide DMZ border area separating the two Koreas when a landmine blast injured three heavily armed soldiers, two of them seriously.

South Korea’s military together with the UN Command that oversees the Korean War armistice ending the 1950-53 conflict has conducted a field investigation inside the zone.

SEUL, 28 settembre (Reuters) - L’esercito sudcoreano ha dichiarato lunedì che è “altamente probabile” che le esplosioni che il 21 settembre hanno ferito gravemente due soldati sudcoreani nella Zona Demilitarizzata (DMZ) al confine siano state causate da una mina nordcoreana.

Una squadra militare sudcoreana stava conducendo un’operazione di ricognizione all’interno del settore occidentale della zona demilitarizzata (DMZ), un’area di confine larga 4 km che separa le due Coree, quando l’esplosione di una mina terrestre ha ferito tre soldati pesantemente armati, due dei quali in modo grave.

L’esercito sudcoreano, insieme al Comando delle Nazioni Unite che sovrintende all’armistizio della guerra di Corea che pose fine al conflitto del 1950-53, ha condotto un’indagine sul campo all’interno della zona.
