PARIS, April 9 (Reuters) - The Paris Public Prosecutor’s office has dropped a probe into illegal drug possession against Rima Hassan, a French far-left member of the European Parliament, it said on Thursday.
* The Paris Public Prosecutor’s office said in a statementthe preliminary investigation did not reveal a “sufficientlysubstantiated offense.” * The probe was launched last week after police foundcannabidiol, or CBD, and a substance that seemed to be adesigner drug 3-MMC in her possession. * Hassan has denied illegal drug possession, saying in apost on X that she takes CBD for medical reasons. * Separately, Hassan will face trial in July over a commentshe posted on X last month about a 1970s attack on an Israeliairport, the Paris prosecutor’s office said last Thursday. * The prosecutor’s office had also said that Hassan is thesubject of six other investigations into possible hate speechwhile 16 others have been shelved. * Born in Syria, Hassan, 33, is of Palestinian descent andis a vocal pro-Palestinian activist and a fierce critic ofIsrael.
