LONDON, July 10 (Reuters) - The election to decide if Nigel Farage, leader of Britain’s populist Reform UK Party, will return to parliament after quitting earlier this week will take place on August 13, the local authority said on Friday.

Farage, who is under investigation in parliament over millions of pounds of gifts from wealthy backers, quit on Tuesday saying he wanted voters in his electoral district in southeast England to judge his actions, not what he said was a liberal “establishment” bent on discrediting him.

Farage is likely to be the only mainstream candidate after other parties said they would refuse to take part in what they characterised as a stunt.

LONDRA, 10 luglio (Reuters) - Le elezioni per decidere se Nigel Farage, leader del partito populista britannico Reform UK, tornerà in parlamento dopo le dimissioni presentate all’inizio di questa settimana si terranno il 13 agosto, ha comunicato venerdì l’autorità locale.

Farage, oggetto di un’indagine parlamentare per regali del valore di milioni di sterline ricevuti da ricchi sostenitori, si è dimesso martedì affermando di volere che fossero gli elettori del suo collegio elettorale nel sud-est dell’Inghilterra a giudicare le sue azioni, e non quello che lui definisce un “establishment” liberale deciso a screditarlo.

Farage sarà probabilmente l’unico candidato delle principali formazioni politiche, dopo che gli altri partiti hanno dichiarato che si sarebbero rifiutati di partecipare a quella che hanno definito una trovata pubblicitaria.
