ShinyHunters suspect also investigated for alleged murder orders, Dutch media report

AMSTERDAM, Sept 29 (Reuters) - A 24-year-old man arrested earlier this week as part of an investigation into the hacking group ShinyHunters is also being investigated over allegations that he ordered two murders abroad, Dutch media reported on Tuesday.

Police did not immediately confirm the reports.

Information about the alleged murder plots was reportedly found on the suspect’s laptop, Dutch news agency ANP reported. It was not clear whether the murders he allegedly ordered actually took place. The allegations are separate from the investigation into ShinyHunters.

Although Dutch authorities have not publicly identified the man, his former employer, Amsterdam-based cybersecurity company Neo Security, said his name is Pepijn van der Stap.

Attempts by Reuters to reach Van der Stap or identify a lawyer or representative have not been successful.

He was arrested in a dramatic police raid amid escalating concern over ShinyHunters, a hacking group known for large-scale data breaches and extortion, and its recent theft of what it said was terabytes of sensitive personnel data from US FBI servers.

At least some of the data includes employees’ intelligence assignments and medical records, Reuters has reported.

ShinyHunters has said Van der Stap had “no association” with the group.

AMSTERDAM, 29 settembre (Reuters) - Un uomo di 24 anni arrestato all’inizio di questa settimana nell’ambito di un’indagine sul gruppo di hacker ShinyHunters è indagato anche per le accuse di aver ordinato due omicidi all’estero, secondo quanto riportato martedì dai media olandesi.

La polizia non ha confermato immediatamente le notizie.

Secondo quanto riportato dall’agenzia di stampa olandese ANP, le informazioni relative ai presunti complotti omicidi sarebbero state rinvenute sul computer portatile del sospettato. Non è chiaro se gli omicidi che avrebbe ordinato abbiano effettivamente avuto luogo. Le accuse sono distinte dall’indagine su ShinyHunters.

Sebbene le autorità olandesi non abbiano reso pubblico l’identità dell’uomo, il suo ex datore di lavoro, la società di sicurezza informatica Neo Security con sede ad Amsterdam, ha dichiarato che il suo nome è Pepijn van der Stap.

I tentativi di Reuters di contattare Van der Stap o di individuare un avvocato o un suo rappresentante non hanno avuto esito positivo.

È stato arrestato nel corso di una drammatica irruzione della polizia, in un contesto di crescente preoccupazione per ShinyHunters, un gruppo di hacker noto per violazioni di dati su larga scala ed estorsioni, nonché per il recente furto di quelli che, secondo quanto dichiarato dal gruppo, sarebbero terabyte di dati sensibili sul personale dai server dell’FBI statunitense.

Secondo quanto riportato da Reuters, almeno una parte dei dati comprende incarichi di intelligence e cartelle cliniche dei dipendenti.

ShinyHunters ha affermato che Van der Stap non aveva «alcun legame» con il gruppo.
