Jan 19 (Reuters) - The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said on Monday that Turkish drones struck Syria’s far northeastern city of Hasaka, but Turkish security sources said the report was not true.

The region continues to grapple with unrest amid tensions between the Syrian government and the autonomy-minded SDF.

Turkey, the strongest foreign backer of Damascus, has since 2016 repeatedly sent forces into northern Syria to curb the gains of the SDF, which over the course of Syria’s 2011–24 civil war took control of more than a quarter of the country while fighting Islamic State militants with strong U.S. support.

19 gennaio (Reuters) - Le Forze Democratiche Siriane a guida curda hanno detto lunedì che droni turchi hanno colpito la città di Hasaka, nell’estremo nord-est della Siria, ma fonti della sicurezza turca hanno detto che il rapporto non era vero.

La regione continua a essere alle prese con disordini tra le tensioni tra il governo siriano e le SDF, che hanno una mentalità autonomista.

La Turchia, il più forte sostenitore straniero di Damasco, dal 2016 ha ripetutamente inviato forze nel nord della Siria per frenare le conquiste dell’SDF, che nel corso della guerra civile siriana del 2011-24 ha preso il controllo di più di un quarto del Paese combattendo i militanti dello Stato Islamico con il forte sostegno degli Stati Uniti.
