April 8 (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that the United States has had a decisive military victory over Iran and that Tehran’s missile program has been functionally destroyed.

Hegseth and General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke to reporters a day after President Donald Trump pulled back from the brink of a threatened full-on assault on Iran on Tuesday night, two hours before a deadline he had set for Tehran to open the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.

Caine said U.S. military objectives in Iran have been met but the ceasefire is a pause and forces remain ready to resume combat.

L’8 aprile (Reuters) - Il segretario alla Difesa statunitense Pete Hegseth ha dichiarato mercoledì che gli Stati Uniti hanno ottenuto una vittoria militare decisiva sull’Iran e che il programma missilistico di Teheran è stato funzionalmente distrutto.

Hegseth e il generale Dan Caine, presidente degli Stati Maggiori Riuniti, hanno parlato con i reporter un giorno dopo che il presidente Donald Trump si è tirato indietro dall’orlo di un assalto totale all’Iran minacciato martedì sera, due ore prima della scadenza che aveva fissato per Teheran per aprire lo Stretto di Hormuz, bloccato.

Caine ha detto che gli obiettivi militari degli Stati Uniti in Iran sono stati raggiunti, ma che il cessate il fuoco è una pausa e le forze sono pronte a riprendere il combattimento.
