Former Russian deputy defence minister jailed for 19 years in corruption, RIA reports

MOSCOW, April 10 (Reuters) - A Russian military court on Friday sentenced Pavel Popov, a former deputy defence minister, to 19 years in prison for corruption, the RIA state news agency reported, in one of a string of such cases that have rocked the highest echelons of the Russian military establishment.

Popov, 69, was arrested in the summer of 2024 in connection with suspected fraud related to the construction of a military theme park near Moscow.

MOSCA, 10 aprile (Reuters) - Un tribunale militare russo ha condannato venerdì Pavel Popov, ex viceministro della Difesa, a 19 anni di carcere per corruzione, ha riferito l’agenzia di stampa statale RIA, in uno dei tanti casi di questo tipo che hanno scosso i vertici dell’establishment militare russo.

Popov, 69 anni, era stato arrestato nell’estate del 2024 in relazione a sospette frodi legate alla costruzione di un parco a tema militare vicino a Mosca.
