MOSCOW, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that any deployment of British troops in Ukraine would prolong the war, not end it.

France and Britain have said they intend to send troops to Ukraine once a ceasefire in the war with Russia is reached.

British Defence Minister John Healey wrote in a weekend newspaper article: “I want to be the defence secretary who deploys British troops to Ukraine – because this will mean that this war is finally over.”

Zakharova told reporters: “Contrary to Healey’s misconception, the deployment of British troops to Ukraine will not mean the end of the war, but rather a prolongation of the conflict and an increase in the risk of a large-scale military confrontation involving many more states.”

She repeated a warning by Russia that it would see any foreign troops in Ukraine as legitimate targets.

MOSCA, 26 febbraio (Reuters) - La portavoce del ministero degli Esteri russo Maria Zakharova ha detto giovedì che qualsiasi dispiegamento di truppe britanniche in Ucraina prolungherebbe la guerra, non la porrebbe fine.

Francia e Gran Bretagna hanno detto che intendono inviare truppe in Ucraina una volta raggiunto un cessate il fuoco nella guerra con la Russia.

Il ministro della Difesa britannico John Healey ha scritto in un articolo di giornale del fine settimana: “Voglio essere il segretario alla Difesa che dispiega le truppe britanniche in Ucraina - perché questo significherà che questa guerra è finalmente finita”.

Zakharova ha detto ai reporter: “Contrariamente all’idea sbagliata di Healey, il dispiegamento di truppe britanniche in Ucraina non significherà la fine della guerra, ma piuttosto un prolungamento del conflitto e un aumento del rischio di un confronto militare su larga scala che coinvolgerà molti più Stati”.

Ha ripetuto un avvertimenti della Russia che avrebbe visto le truppe straniere in Ucraina come bersagli legittimi.
