CAIRO, March 16 (Reuters) - Iraq’s interior ministry said on Monday that a drone hit a hotel in Baghdad without causing casualties or material damages.

Security sources earlier said a drone hit Al-Rasheed hotel in the Green Zone, which houses governmental buildings and the U.S. embassy, as fire and smoke were seen rising.

After examination, it was determined a drone had collided with the hotel’s upper fence, the ministry said, condemning any attempts to target diplomatic envoys in the country.

Security sources also earlier said two Katyusha rockets were fired at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.

CAIRO, 16 marzo (Reuters) - Il ministero degli Interni iracheno ha detto lunedì che un drone ha colpito un hotel a Baghdad senza causare vittime o danni materiali.

Fonti della sicurezza avevano detto in precedenza che un drone aveva colpito l’hotel Al-Rasheed nella Zona Verde, che ospita edifici governativi e l’ambasciata statunitense, mentre si vedevano alzarsi fuoco e fumo.

Dopo un esame, è stato determinato che un drone si è scontrato con la recinzione superiore dell’hotel, ha detto il ministero, condannando qualsiasi tentativo di colpire gli inviati diplomatici nel Paese.

Fonti della sicurezza hanno anche detto in precedenza che due razzi Katyusha sono stati lanciati contro l’ambasciata degli Stati Uniti a Baghdad.
