NEW DELHI, March 6 (Reuters) - The southern Indian state of Karnataka, home to the tech hub of Bengaluru, has banned the use of social media by those under the age of 16, state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday, becoming the first in India to do so.

“With the objective of preventing adverse effects of increasing mobile usage on children, usage of social media will be banned for children under the age of 16,” Siddaramaiah, who uses only one name, said in his budget speech.

NEW DELHI, 6 marzo (Reuters) - Lo stato meridionale indiano del Karnataka, sede dell’hub tecnologico di Bengaluru, ha vietato l’uso dei social media ai minori di 16 anni, ha detto venerdì il ministro capo dello stato Siddaramaiah, diventando il primo in India a farlo.

“Con l’obiettivo di prevenire gli effetti negativi dell’aumento dell’uso dei cellulari sui bambini, l’uso dei social media sarà vietato ai minori di 16 anni”, ha dichiarato Siddaramaiah, che usa solo un nome, nel suo discorso sul bilancio.
