BRUSSELS, April 16 (Reuters) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday that she agreed with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to work in the coming weeks to strengthen the European Union’s relationship with the military alliance.

“We discussed the upcoming NATO Summit and how we can upscale defence industrial output in Europe,” von der Leyen said in a post on social media platform X after meeting Rutte in Brussels.

“We need to invest more, to produce more and to do both faster. With the rise in global security threats, we agreed to work closely together in the next weeks to strengthen the EU-NATO relationship and prepare a successful Summit in Ankara,” she added.

Rutte said in a post about his discussion with von der Leyen that “a stronger Europe means a stronger NATO”.

BRUXELLES, 16 aprile (Reuters) - Il presidente della Commissione europea Ursula von der Leyen ha detto giovedì di aver concordato con il segretario generale della NATO Mark Rutte di lavorare nelle prossime settimane per rafforzare le relazioni dell’Unione europea con l’alleanza militare.

“Abbiamo discusso del prossimo vertice della NATO e di come possiamo aumentare la produzione industriale della difesa in Europa”, ha dichiarato von der Leyen in un post sulla piattaforma di social media X dopo aver incontrato Rutte a Bruxelles.

“Dobbiamo investire di più, produrre di più e fare entrambe le cose più velocemente. Con l’aumento delle minacce alla sicurezza globale, abbiamo concordato di lavorare a stretto contatto nelle prossime settimane per rafforzare le relazioni tra Unione europea e NATO e preparare un vertice di successo ad Ankara”, ha aggiunto.

Rutte ha dichiarato in un post sul suo colloquio con von der Leyen che “un’Europa più forte significa una NATO più forte”.
