FRANKFURT, March 15 (Reuters) - German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Sunday that he was sceptical about a potential widening of the European Union’s Aspides naval mission to the Strait of Hormuz.

Wadephul said that the mission to help commercial shipments pass through the Red Sea was “not effective”.

“And that is why I am very sceptical that extending Aspides to the Strait of Hormuz would provide greater security,” he said in an interview on Germany’s ARD broadcaster.

FRANCOFORTE, 15 marzo (Reuters) - Il ministro degli esteri tedesco Johann Wadephul ha detto domenica di essere scettico su un potenziale ampliamento della missione navale Aspides dell’Unione europea nello Stretto di Hormuz.

Wadephul ha detto che la missione per aiutare le spedizioni commerciali a passare attraverso il Mar Rosso non è “efficace”.

“Ed è per questo che sono molto scettico sul fatto che l’estensione di Aspides allo Stretto di Hormuz possa garantire una maggiore sicurezza”, ha detto in un’intervista all’emittente tedesca ARD.
